Raw finish supports volume and definition. First, these cymbals are lathed and hand-hammered on both surfaces. Second, they are acid-washed from the bell to the flange, leaving a 2 "circle around the edge. Third, and last but not least, after the lathing, both surface sections are then hand-polished to a mirror-like shine. These are indeed very labor-intensive cymbals, honoring players and listeners with a fantastically dark sound.

Extremely dry. Unhammered bell. A specially fitted rivet arrangement designed to create a controlled “rattle” sound.
These cymbals are as well extremely dry in character, similar to Atacama line, also with unhammered bells producing minimal overtones. The lightweight hi-hat collection of 12”, 13”, and 14” are balanced in a way that they can also function as splash/crash cymbals. The rivets are placed with four on top the cymbal, grouped in two and placed opposite of each other, and on the bottom cymbal two rivets are inserted on the inside of the cymbal producing vibration. They have limited sustain allowing for more control particularly at low dynamic levels. The combination of the open hi-hats together with the ride cymbal creates a surround sound sizzle/rattle effect which can be easily obtained with only the slightest touch.

This gives the cymbals a bright, but not brilliant, color and leaves behind the pits of the hammer marks for a slightly raw appearance. The entire surface of the cymbal is hammered, save the bell, which is sparsely lathed on top and totally unlathed underneath. These models sport a low-profile bell and a fairly shallow bow, which contributes to their strong stick definition and dry wash. They are in the medium-light range and have a decent amount of flex. They have a slightly steeper bell and a more dramatic bow, which gives them a somewhat brighter character, and they’re proportionally heavier and less flexible than the rides and crashes. You will love the dark sound of R&S hi-hats.
